First Day of Fifth Grade and Last Year of Elementary

I think I should rename this blog to "Time Flies". It seems just like yesterday that I was worrying aout Manya going to a full day Kindergarten in a new city with nobody she'd know. While loooking for homes to buy, the middle shcool didn't even feature in our conversations and guess what, we are here already.

Too cool to pose for mom. Sassier, leggier. More spicy than sweet. Ms. Big-Know-It-All.

Me: I love you Manya, have a great year and a great day.
M: Don’t be sappy mom, I love you too!

First day of Fourth Grade

First day of fourth grade. And here’s how sassy and grown up we have become…

We do our customary pictures.

M: Mom these pictures are great for your records and posterity but can you not post them on any social media. Thank you.

Me: Umm okay but just so you know I have a secure account and share only with added friends.

M: That’s okay but you do know nothing is really safe once it’s out there somewhere. Didn’t you tell me the other day that even what I send on email remains somewhere for ever. And anyways it’s not even that - I just don’t want my pictures on your social media.

Me (sheepishly): Yeah sure, whatever. I respect your wishes. Will not post.

M: Also, let me know what you want for your birthday or i can take you out. My budget is very limited though.

Me: Noted. Thank you.

Phew. She is getting too big for her boots and already fits into my shoes. And no, I did not seek permission from her to post this conversation.

Happy first day of school to us!

Back to In-Person Learning

Grade 3: First day of in-person learning in forever.

Echo what a friend remarked, it’s like sending these kids to war or something. Masked, armed with sanitizer, and instructions to keep a safe distance and follow directions at all times!
Oh this world, you have my heart and break it too…

Also, it's a new school for Manya. Earlier this year she got selected for the Discovery program at the school district and while I was on the fence about whether or not she should enroll, Manya wanted to give it a try. All the best, love! You rock!

First Day of Grade 2

2020 is surely going to be a historic year - and as our kids are caught in it, they are making history. First day of Grade 2 today. 100% remote learning. We missed the usual hustle and bustle of a new academic year - meeting teachers and new classmates, new bag packs and lunch bags and back to school outfits. These were replaced by a new desk, a new laptop, frenzied setting up of all the tech stuff - links and passwords, and calendar updates for all the meetings etc.

M starts the year with a huge interest in Politics - what with it being an election year and all. Let's see how long this phase lasts. Meanwhile, I have made it clear to her that no arguments at home till she actually gets her law degree :).

First day of Pre-K

It has been a good summer. Manya has got to spend time with her grandparents. Vish's parents were here. Easy warm days with matial arts and swimming as the only set activities. We did a lot of berry picking, and the regular touristy stuff taking the grandparents around Portland.

School year is finally here and Manya has one more year to go at her preschool. They call it Pre-K but it's just fun mostly! Have a great year sweetheart!
